Counselling, Psychotherapy & Hypnotherapy

What is Counselling

Counselling is discussing through with someone your current or past problems and issues, the counsellor must be an actively listener and provide you with comfort and support when discussing your various

issues. There is a fine art and skill in counselling you require professional training and experience to carry this out correctly and ethically. The holistic approach of counselling involves looking at a person as a 'whole' this will enable us to explore and resolve any of your personal issues.

What is Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is a general term that is used to describe the process of treating psychological disorders and mental distress. During this process, a trained psychotherapist helps the client tackle a specific or general problem such as a particular mental illness or a source of life stress. Depending on the approach used by the therapist, a wide range of techniques and strategies can be used. However, almost all types of psychotherapy involve developing a therapeutic relationship, communicating and creating a dialogue and working to overcome problematic thoughts or behaviours.

There are some psychotherapists that use hypnosis in their therapeutic approach and may only regard themselves solely as clinical hypnotherapists! I think it is important to say that some therapeutic approaches may bridge over from hypnotherapy to psychotherapy depending on the techniques used and the feeling or behaviour being treated. Hypnotherapy will not be used if the client is suffering from a clinical mental health disorder. I have a PositivePlus approach towards alleviating mental distress and many conditions associated with mental health.

What is Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is the use of Hypnosis (hypnotic trance), which is an altered state of consciousness in which it is possible to communicate with the subconscious mind. Believe it or not, it is a very common state, which everybody, to some degree, experiences every day.

It occurs when our conscious mind is absorbed or distracted. You know how it is when you get thoroughly lost in a beautiful piece of music, or a good book, or a daydream, or the TV. Your attention is completely captured and everyday reality fades into the background as your mind carries you away to a different world of the imagination. You are still conscious, but your consciousness is temporarily altered. Well, that is a form of trance. In fact we all go through a similar phase just before we go to sleep. It’s a very natural and normal state of deep relaxation, which we all experience and drift in and out of from time to time. The Hypnotherapy sessions involve you being guided into this same relaxed state of consciousness which then enables you and the Hypnotherapist to tackle the issues that are affecting you, because this hypnotic trance state is bypassing the conscious mind and communicating with the subconscious mind, successful and significant results are achieved very quickly.
